A flame flickers in the darkness while the ancestral artist crushes pigments in his mouth. His fingers are caked with shades of red, black, and ochre. He flakes the crust off and places his hand on the wall of the cave and begins sputtering through a small reed, stenciling his handprint upon the rock. As he finishes he pulls his hand away and wipes the oozing pigment from the corners of his mouth… From the earliest cave painters to the modern artist sitting in a dark room where the glow of the screen bathes her face; from the ancient musicians playing drums prior to the hunt, to current day maestros, there is a commonality in all artistic expression, a commonality born of the human condition. There is a realization of the Infinite Horizon that lies within, a need to express the Infinite in finite form, to circumscribe the Un-circumscribable. To describe love when it defies articulation; to allow one to taste desire and bathe in starlight when the ears are the only portals to this experience - this is the goal of the musician. This internal reflection has as its source the experience of the Divine, an experience that has been an indicator of "humanity" all through its history. The title track for this album describes the artist's lot: becoming a locus of expressive creativity by bringing together experience, inspiration that comes from the Infinite Horizon within and materials that have their origins in creation, so that others can better perceive themselves. It is a reflection on the process that led to the recording of the songs that precede it. The rest of the album is a compilation of experiences that hopefully paints an image in the wall of your soul that lets you see yourself in a different light. If this compilation of experience and expression have found a resonance in your heart, than my simple wall paintings will not have been in vain…
